The strength of walls during a siege is determined by two things - the strength of building itself and the ability of defenders to cleanly shoot enemies that are attacking.
These crenelated walls are a common design, effective at giving archers a clear space for firing on enemies as well as providing a niche for placing siege cauldrons and other defensive mechanisms.
