Most warriors prefer to carry a shield into battle if there is one available. The best blow is the one that misses, but the second-best blow is the one that you block.
The shell of the shaleback provides them with excellent protection against the elements and predators of the Exiled Lands. It is strong and durable, though it tends to chip and flake in the midst of battle.
