Description

Ask not a man what goes into his compost heap. That is his business alone. It is what a man removes from his compost heap that matters.

Notes

The Compost Heap turns decayable items into Compost that can be used in Planters to grow basic crops like Aloe Leaves from the corresponding sources like Aloe Seeds. Compost can be further enriched into Potent Compost to grow rarer crops like Grey Lotus Flower from Grey Lotus Seeds.
Compost Heaps will accelerate the decay rate of anything placed inside by a factor of 20 (except Putrid Meat, which decays at its normal rate). Ice, as an example, will have its decay timer reduced from 10 minutes in the player inventory to 30 seconds in a compost heap. Decay acceleration always happens, even when no compost is present in the heap. This can be used for items unrelated to farming, such as hatching pet eggs.
If compost is left inside the heap, it will produce a single stack of Fat Grubs at a rate of one grub per 30 seconds. This does not consume the compost: one compost in a heap can generate grubs indefinitely. The replenishment rate of grubs (30s) slightly outpaces the accelerated decay rate (30s + 5s grace), meaning the stack of grubs will slowly grow until it reaches its maximum of 50. No further grubs are generated once the stack is full. These grubs can be used in conjunction with an appropriate Tanner to create a Silk farm by setting up a large number of compost heaps and using an Artisan Table.
