Thrall

Thralls are NPCs in Conan Exiles. They can be used as servants, either working at crafting stations, as companions following the player or as lookouts guarding buildings.

Races

As is the case with characters in Conan Exiles, Thralls are also of various races.

Factions

From weakest to strongest: Exiles -> Darfari Cannibals -> Lemurians, Black Hand -> Dogs of the Desert -> Heirs of the North -> Forgotten Tribe -> Relic Hunters -> Votaries of Skelos

¹ Even though the Relic Hunters use somewhat inferior weapons than some of the factions listed as weaker, they do have a superior health pool, which ultimately tips the scales in regards to time-to-kill. Their strength is also in line with their HP and thus higher than other factions, alleviating some of that missing weapon damage.

Capturing

Thralls are captured by knocking them out with a Truncheon, Iron Truncheon, Steel Truncheon or Lovetap - hitting Thralls with those weapons depletes the slim white bar above their HP - reaching zero, they fall down unconscious for 10 minutes (longer when outside of visibility range for any player). Then they have to be dragged to a Lesser Wheel of Pain, Wheel of Pain or Greater Wheel of Pain using Fiber Bindings, Leather Bindings, Rawhide Bindings or Chain Bindings. It is possible to swim, but not to climb, or use a two-handed weapon while dragging a thrall. Using either options will unequip the bindings and drop the thrall where it was when performing said action. Gruel, or most food, must be placed inside the Wheel of Pain to act as "fuel".

Using any type of blunted weapon enhancement like Advanced Blunted Weapon Fitting dramatically decreases the number of hits needed with a Truncheon or Lovetap. Those enhancements can even be put on some tools (like Stone Hatchet) or weapons to get that same result.

Thrall crafting time

Thrall crafting time, or the speed at which thralls can be crafted, is affected by the level of the thrall itself as well as the level of a Taskmaster assigned to the Wheel of Pain. The type of Wheel of Pain has no effect on crafting times.

A tier 1 thrall requires 3,900 seconds to break, or about 1.08 hours.
A tier 2 thrall requires 11,905 seconds to break, or about 3.30 hours.
A tier 3 thrall requires 23,627 seconds to break, or about 6.50 hours.
A tier 4, or named thrall, requires 92,920 seconds to break, or about 25.80 hours.

Deploying

Fighters, Bearers and Archers can be placed anywhere that isn't within the claim radius of a different clan or which is prohibited by certain landmarks and zone as determined by the game (e.g. Unnamed City). This means a combat thrall can be placed within a base, or even out in the world. To deploy a combat thrall, move it to the hotbar and place it like any other building item.

Thralls can be useful for defending an area against weak, stupid, or disoriented opponents. They are particularly useful in defending a region against NPCs or against other players during a raid. On PvP servers, it is usually a bad idea to leave a combat thrall out in the open, or anywhere a passing enemy might snipe the thrall with their bow. They will still offer protection when placed inside a building structure.

Combat Thralls will attack other players that come within range, but only during raid times (e.g. 5 pm to 11 pm PST on official servers). This does not apply to PvE-servers.

Feeding

Thralls don't have to be fed, as they depend on a decay timer. If you do not login in 168 hours they will disappear.^{[citation needed]}

Thralls can not die from hunger despite their hunger bar decreasing. Once it hits 0 they should not lose any HP.^[1]

Grilled Steak > Roasted Haunch > Shredded Roast will give the thrall a buff that increases their damage output. The visual indicator for this is a fist symbol with a + attached to it, usually only visible during combat.

Specializations

Thralls have a variety of specializations. Most can be visually identified from a distance by what they are holding, e.g. bow is an archer, sword and shield is a fighter. Thralls placed at a crafting station reduce the amount of crafting materials needed and often provide unique or high-grade recipes.

Tiers

Every specialization has 4 different levels, or tiers, identified with a I, II, or III at the end of their name, with tier 4 thralls being uniquely named. The exceptions are priests (Priest, High Priest and Archpriest) and Taskmasters from Sepermeru (Journeyman, Apprentice, Master).

Thralls affect crafting speeds, resource requirements and Fuel usage when placed at a workstation, depending on their specialisation and tier.

Tier 3 and 4 Thralls, when placed at their corresponding workstations, can grant access to additional crafting recepies or exceptional/flawless variants of equipment.

For example:

A Carpenter II placed at a Carpenter's Bench makes it possible to craft Shaped Wood for 7 Wood instead of 10.
A Blacksmith II placed at a Blacksmith's Bench makes it possible to craft Iron Reinforcements for 1 Iron Bar
An Armorer III placed at a Armorer's Bench makes it possible to craft exceptional armor pieces.

Archer and Fighter thralls will have more health and armor based on their tier type. Damage is based on the weapon they use.

Named thralls (tier 4)

Tier 4 thralls have unique names. These thralls often provide additional recipes when placed at a crafting station.

The thralls listed below include the ingame map coordinates where they can spawn. The following method can be used to view map coordinates ingame (admin access is not required):

Open the console with ~ Tilde: Shift + `
Type: ToggleDebugHUD
Press [Enter]. The map coordinates will be displayed in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen using the format (X,Y,Z) where X is the East/West coordinate, Y is the North/South Coordinate, and Z is elevation.

Alchemists

Description

An Thrall can be placed in the Thrall slot of the Firebowl Cauldron, Improved Firebowl Cauldron, Precision Firebowl Cauldron, Giant's Firebowl Cauldron, Dyer's Bench, Alchemist's Bench, Improved Alchemist's Bench, Trade Alchemist's Bench, Precision Alchemist's Bench and Fermentation Barrel.

Armorers

Description

An Thrall can be placed in the Thrall slot of the Armorer's Bench, Improved Armorer's Bench, Campaign Armorer's Bench, Garrison Armorer's Bench, Saddler's Worktable, Tinker's Bench and Casting Table.
An Thrall placed in a Tanner's Table can provide the ability to turn 4 Hide and 1 Twine into 1 Thick Hide, as well as convert 2 Gossamer into 1 Silk.
An Thrall can also be placed at the Artisan Table, Khitan Artisan Table, Aquilonian Artisan Table, Turanian Artisan Table and Argossean Artisan Table but provide no additional benefit.

Every type of armorer increases the armor value based on armor type (light, medium, heavy), decreases the weight, adds durability and attributes to the armor. This scales first with their rank and then, depending on the stat in question, with their specializations.

There are three specializations of tier 4 Armorers with different bonuses:
- Scoutwrights provide the best reduction of the weight of any crafted piece.
- Shieldwrights provide the best armor value of any crafted piece.
- Temperwrights provide the best increase of durability of any crafted piece.
Purge thralls do not seem to have any additional benefit whatsoever, beyond their specializations.

With the 2.1 Update to Conan Exiles, the crafting speed benefits for Armorers have been baked into the various Armor crafting benches.
Benefits may vary in an Armorer's Bench.
Increased stats of the table pertains per piece of armor, i.e. a T4 Armorer gives +2% to an attribute, the whole set of armor crafted with a T4 Armorer will give +10%.
Damage dealt affects Strength Weapon Damage, Agility Weapon Damage, Concussive Damage, and Follower Damage.

Bonus Recipes

Temperwrights give access to Legendary Armor Patch Kit in the Tinker's Bench.
Any Armorer grants the recipe for the Redeemed Legion armor set in a Campaign Armorer's Bench or Garrison Armorer's Bench providing you have unlocked the Pride of the Silent Legion knowledge.
Tiers 2+ Armorers grant the recipes for Leather Apron, Leather Workgloves and the Zamorian Dancer armor set in all benches.
Tiers 3+ Armorers grant the recipes for Black Hand Trousers, Black Hand Vest, the Derketo Dancer armor set, and the Stygian armor set in all benches.
Tier 4 Armorers grants the recipe for Darfari Speaker Mask in all benches.

Notes

Thralls can spawn as a result of a purge in the Exiled Lands, or in the Isle of Siptah DLC in a Wild Surge or an evoked Surge.
Killed unconverted bearers will always have Supply Materials and randomly also their backpack in their inventory.
After converting a Bearer, the Bearer Pack can be used as a head item that grants +45 Carrying Capacity when worn.
A Bearer can follow you and carry full stacks of the heaviest items without any penalty, even without their Bearer Pack, retaining the benefits below.
The Bearers name in the Admin Panel is Sherpa.

Damage

Damage inflicted by thralls uses the following formula:
Weapon Damage * Multiplier^*1 * (1 + Primary^*2 Damage Bonus) * (1 + (Secondary^*2 Damage Bonus / 10)) * (1 + Player Bonuses^*3)

Melee multiplier if melee, ranged multiplier if projectile.
Primary damage bonus is strength if using strength weapon, agility if using agility weapon. The other damage type is secondary.
Player bonuses are ignored if using the War Party perk.

Diet

Each fighter that you place will spawn with different probabilities of gaining points in each specific attribute. You can influence the chance of leveling into a specific attribute by feeding it one of its preferred foods.

Armor penetration bonus values are shown relative based off of the original value, i.e. 10% -> 11% gives a 10% increase.
Armor penetration bonus scales with base armor penetration. So if a weapon has 0% armor penetration, Edgesmiths won't provide any bonus.

A Carpenter can be placed in the Thrall slot of the Carpenter's Bench, Improved Carpenter's Bench, Trade Carpenter's Bench or the Precision Carpenter's Bench.
Carpenters can also be placed at the Artisan Table, Khitan Artisan Table, Aquilonian Artisan Table, Turanian Artisan Table and the Argossean Artisan Table but do not provide additional benefits.

There are three types of T4 Carpenters specializations with different bonuses:
- A Builder provides maximum durability of any crafted weapon.
- A Bowmaker provides maximum damage increase of any crafted weapon.
- A Fletcher provides maximum armor penetration of any crafted weapon.¹

¹ Since the effect is a multiplier, the Fletcher will not have any effect on a weapon with zero armor pen.

Description

Thrall thralls are dancers that can be placed into the world like Fighters or Archers.

They provide a small healing buff and remove corruption from players nearby, but can also be ordered to follow players and engage in combat.

Notes

The healing buff Performers provide is the same regardless of tier and heals at a rate of +0.05 health per second per stack, up to a maximum of 10 stacks, or 1 health every 2 seconds.
If a player is Tainted, the corruption removal buff is reduced in efficiency by a base -40%, with an additional -0.5% per stack of Tainted.
While the radii for healing and corruption removal are both 10 meters, healing is a circle that ignores elevation while corruption removal is a sphere.

Damage

Damage inflicted by thralls uses the following formula:
Weapon Damage * Multiplier^*1 * (1 + Primary^*2 Damage Bonus) * (1 + (Secondary^*2 Damage Bonus / 10)) * (1 + Player Bonuses^*3)

Melee multiplier if melee, ranged multiplier if projectile.
Primary damage bonus is strength if using strength weapon, agility if using agility weapon. The other damage type is secondary.
Player bonuses are ignored if using the War Party perk.

Diet

Each fighter that you place will spawn with different probabilities of gaining points in each specific attribute. You can influence the chance of leveling into a specific attribute by feeding it one of its preferred foods.

* This data seems to suggest there are several bugs embedded in how the Priest Thralls interact with Shrines and Altars: there is no armor bonus despite the fact that there is an entire specialization built around increased armor (Seneschal). The values for T4 Seneschal and Guardian Weight decrease are also bugged.

True Name of X

A T4 Priest can be used to learn the true name of a god, crafted in the form of a token, that can be used to temporarily summon an avatar of that god, capable of inflicting great damage against the user's enemies.
Note that crafting an avatar from any of the Altars will destroy the Altar and all of its contents, including the T4 Priest.
Any Manifestation of Zeals remaining will be in a loot bag, but cannot be picked up.

Derketo

A Taskmaster can be placed in the Thrall slot of the Lesser Wheel of Pain, Wheel of Pain, Greater Wheel of Pain and Torturer's Worktable.

Taskmasters in the Torturer's Worktable increase the durability of all items crafted in the bench and the concussion damage of crafted Truncheons.

There are two types of Taskmaster specializations with different bonuses:
- A Driver provides the best increase of the concussion damage of any crafted piece in the Torturer's Worktable.
- A Overseer provides the best increase of the durability of any crafted piece in the Torturer's Worktable.

¹ This is probably a bug or oversight and may be fixed in a future patch.

Notes

Thralls can provide access to unique items. For example, a Stygian thrall allows players to create Stygian weapons even though their character might be from a different race.
A Nordheimer or Cimmerian Priest can only be placed on an altar of Ymir, a Stygian Priest on an altar of Set, etc.
Thralls can be used to defend a base. They can also be placed in the wild to attack hostile enemies (ie. posting an archer tower in the North to help clear an area of wolves).
Drops Human Flesh when killed, with a chance of common loot.
"Thrall patrols" are a requested feature which is not currently planned.^[2]
